A St. John's University student, working the first ever game at the new Mets venue, was kicked out of the stadium for insisting on wearing his Phillies baseball jacket.

Appropriate action. He was asked repeatedly to remove his jacket and was given an appropriate replacement.
This guy was an a*****e for "standing his grounds". Sometimes, even if you're not being paid, a "uniform code of dress" needs to be followed.
He was just looking for his 15 minutes of fame.

So there's a rivalry between Mets and Phillies. You're on Mets turf wearing the rival's colors and you're indignant? What an idiot.
He offered to wear the St. John's jacket under the Phillies jacket. So it was purely a matter of being in everyone's face because he could just as easily worn the St. John's jacket over his. He would possess no less affinity with his team.

He was just looking for his 15 minutes of fame. Except other co-workers were wearing their own personal jackets instead of the so called uniform and they were not being asked to remove theirs. He wasn't a representative of the Mets in his capacity as a camera man for an NCAA game so the request was a very silly one.

Okay, Suebe. I didn't even read the article ( I will when I am done here) but I would like to give you 1000 upvotes for the headline.
Okay, I have read the article and I have to say that I side with this kid. Like Cold said, if the other co-workers were not wearing their own jackets and were asked to where a St. Johns jacket as well, this would be a totally different story.
I live in So. Jersey. It might as well be East Philadelphia. Almost every single sports loving person here is a Philadelphia sports fan. I have come in contact with some real huge a*****es as I am a Dallas fan. The Eagles biggest rival. I have seen the awfulness that can be a Philadelphia fan. I get called names and yelled at in parking lots when I wear anything Dallas related. Parking lots! The point I am trying to make here is that, while they have the capacity to be raging arseholes, Philly Phans are, by far, the most loyal and dedicated fans I have ever seen. It does not surprise me for one second that this kid didn't take his jacket off. It does surprise me that he didn't tell people to shove certain objects up a particular part of the body.
The way I look at it is, there needs to be fans of other teams or else there would be no one to play against and then there would be no sports. I think it is ridiculous that this kid was asked to take his jacket off.

/rant At first read, I sided with the guy. It sounded unreasonable. He's unpaid, he's wearing his own jacket, others are wearing their own too.
Then, people start razzing him. It interferes with his ability to do his job. Solutions were offered and refused.
I think it's extreme that they kicked him out completely, but I think if he had been a little more accommodating, after all, it was a "historic baseball moment", the issue would have been moot.
I know...I'm waffling a bit. I still think he should have followed directives for proper attire. His Phillies jacket was distracting and causing problems. I think the kid should have re-thought his stand, put on the St John's jacket - after all, his college team was playing, and gone with the flow.
And speaking of rivalries...let's not get into the Jets vs. Pats. They actually sell "f**k the Jets" shirts at the stadium concession stands. Not the parking lot. The actual stadium concession stands.
