I think the only surefire way of testing would be genetic. There are some pretty convincing transvestites out there. Even post-op transgendered people would show up as their original sex, but that opens up a whole other can of worms as to how to define sex.

yeah the article isnt really clear if this is a transgender person or someone who doesnt fit into a specified gender category
there are a plethora of intersex conditions including hemaphrodite and AIS (Androgen resistance syndrome)...actually about 1 in every 1000 American births are not easily classified as a "text book" sex....sometimes its an enlarged clit or swelling or a tear in the ummm 'taint' that can confuse doctors when it comes to defining the gender of a newborn.
but back on the subject....im curious to know if this person is transgender or intersex. because if she is intersexed then she should not be stripped of her medals
