I have helpfully posted a link to the Plime FAQ, along with a couple other relevant links. The intention was to make helping new users easier, since posting it on the main site makes it searchable. Seems a lot quicker than scurrying around the site collecting the links yourself.

Eh?

We need this thread stickied. And the link in the help page redirected to it.

BUMP

Here is an idea: Until we can make this sticky, could we create a topic called "FAQ and other site info". We could put the FAQ there, along with the bug report and features news. With only 2 or 3 threads, they would always be on top.

Is there really no other way to keep this findable other than bumping it all the time? It looks so messy and unprofessional in the thread...

I think that's a great idea! What do you all think?

Also, would be great to clean up this thread and eliminate the bumps. Maybe DEP can do a copy and paste job into a new FAQ category.

Hmm... I have a user rating of "1", right? Yet I've been able to edit posts made by higher level users. Should I be able to do that?

(Ex:

)

Interesting. I think it's allowable for "posts" but comments are a no. For instance, I can edit your comments and make you look like a bigoted a*****e. (Not that I would, but I am capable of doing so.) But you shouldn't be able to edit the comments of members of higher levels than you.

I believe it would be a folly if you couldn't edit the links, since user-level has no impact on the ability to spot spelling errors, add appropriate images, or fix bad html.

Those are my thoughts, anyway.

Digging through old forum threads, I found this gem from jax (which I've added to the main list).

What makes a good headline?

Here's a quick primer for what makes a good headline and description:

  1. No inside jokes. Though a lot of us submitting content are also members of Worth1000, a lot of future members will not be. And probably none of the guests will be. Please write the headline for the guest, as descriptive as possible.
  2. Subtle sense of humor or witty addition is great. There are some great examples on this page and this page.
  3. Invite the user to read more. Don't post a full digest of the article's content or a crucial piece of information in your description. An example would be this post, which requires a user to read the article to find out the actual $ amount teased in the post.
  4. Be DESCRIPTIVE in your headline, not just your description. A user should still be able to understand what the article links to by just reading the headline (as some RSS feeds won't display your description, this is important).
  5. Be CONCISE in your description. Don't post three paragraphs where one will do
  6. Good grammar and punctuation is key! Please capitolize the first word in a sentence. Once this system is rolling and lots of users are at higher levels, other people will help edit your mistakes, but until then, please doublecheck before you post.

Anyone interested in pointing to some more recent examples of this? I'd prefer the links to be as up-to-date as possible...

Great addition DEP. The links in #2 aren't working though.

I'll try to remember some other more up-to-date links.
