OK...all geeks gather round.

I want to build a homemade PVR.

I would like software able to

• Search for movies, television, names...etc
• Record, playback, skip forward 30 seconds

I would like the PVR to be expandable with external H/D's

Download from the Internet

And any other ultimate PVR features that you can think of.

Thanks!

I have done in the, past some time ago.

I only ever used it as a simple DVR/PVR, but it worked well.

it's open source + free so there is a worldwide network of people creating add ins and such.

As far as I know it's the most complete multimedia solution out there, and can include support for downloading tv shows by bittorrent.

I expect there are plenty of people with more experience than me, but poke around the myth tv page to get a better idea of the capabilities.

My receiver is possessed. When I turn it on, or I guess when the surround sound engages, I only get a short (random) amount of time before the surround goes out.

It's like this... I turn the system on and pop in a movie on the PS3. The surround system engages when I switch to DVD mode on the receiver. I get anywhere from 3 seconds to 5 minutes of surround before the system makes this very bass-heavy "thump" and the surround goes out entirely. No amount of resetting the surround, or even turning the system off and on, will make it come back on.

The confusing part is that I hear the thump even if the speakers are not engaged. I have to wear headphones when I play games on the PS3 because they're designed for surround and I can't understand anything being said otherwise. I can hear the system make the thump even if I have the headphones plugged in and the speakers turned off.

Should I set it on fire?

Just a hunch at present but that sounds to me like the PS3 is set to a different audio configuration than it should be.

Are you running HDMI to the amp and then HDMI to the TV? Or is it HDMI to the TV and Optical to the amp?

I guess you'll have already checked the settings, but it can be easy to overlook that sort of thing.

HDMI to the TV, optical to the amp. I know jack about settings, so tell me what I should be set on.

You need to go to Settings -> Sound Settings -> Audio Output Settings

Change the setting there to Digital Out (Optical)

Go back and then save your settings.

That should do it.

I should mention though that if you previously sometimes used the TV speakers for sound from your PS3 then this will turn that off - you'll only be able to use the amp unless you turn Audio Multiple Output on in the Sound Settings Menu (but this might be the problem...)

« pocksucket : I've got 3.5.2 and no problems on that score.

Just as a test try going to Options then on the Content tab disable automatic image loading and see if that speeds things up.

I don't mean this as a fix, just to see what happens.
Well, I disabled the Load Images Automatically option like you said. Not surprisingly, the images didn't load, and the page scrolls smoothly.

I renable pics to load, and the problem returns. If I try to scroll quickly down the page, it will go smoothly for some images, but not for others...I'm assuming that those images are of a higher resolution/size.

Is this what you were looking for?

Which OS are you using?

I've had a bit of a look into it and it seems that there are different causes in different versions.

OK, done a little research into the matter and have found that this might be helpful.

I'd add in making a back up of your favourites before you begin.

It might also be wise to make a copy of the userContent-example.css file in a folder elsewhere.

That's the fix that I found yesterday...I pasted the code at the end and renamed the file as instructed, but nothing has changed...(for better or worse.) Thank goodness because I didn't do the backup as you suggested.

Thanks for the hep..I'll just hope that the next FF update fixes things.

My FF was doing that a few weeks ago and none of the fixes seemed to work so I gave up and started using Chrome. Now Chrome has gone and changed the way the start up page and FF has been updated to 3.5.2 which seems to work.

I wish they would just leave things alone.

I believe 3.5.(3) is the latest version, so that may be where the problem lies...If I were you, I'd wait for 3.5.4 or something like that so you don't run into the same problem I've had.

Not saying that's the cause, but it's suspect in my eyes.

Looking a bit further into it, it looks like it will be version 4.0 that has the fix.

It's a known issue and has been for a long time but v4 will have a whole new way of rendering and animating web pages.

Which is no consolation now.
