« maven : Do you have any add-ons? Google Toolbar, Yahoo Toolbar, etc?
nope. i've made it a point not to get add-ons for IE. i've gotten a couple of misc add-ons (but not search bars) for firefox, though. though, i'm not the only one to use my PC, so how can i double check what's been added to IE and firefox?

edit: n/m, i found it .. and IE does have some google add-on things loaded on it. i'll try screwing with it ...

edit2: interesting ... i didn't SEE a google toolbar in IE, but it still had enabled add-ons for "Google," "Google Toolbar Helper," and "Google Toolbar Notifier BHO." disabling them made IE work nice again.

i feel kinda stupid.

Dolly you seem to be the Wacom expert. About a month ago I got a Bamboo fun tablet, I didn't want to go all out because I'm crap at anything arty but like to play about. A couple of days ago we had a power cut while the PC was still turned on and when the power came back on it told me I had to reinstall the tablet drivers.

Did that and it works well but I appear to have lost my Vista pen flicks. I kinda liked them but can't turn them on again. Any ideas?

Edit to add - I figured it out, stoopid vista control panel. Oh and it's a bamboo one not a fun.

Turn ZoneAlarm off (and think about uninstalling it altogether. Your router has a firewall in it, so your wasting cycles duplicating function) and see if that makes a difference.

Glad you figured it out because I'm hardly an expert :)

Try uninstalling java, and reinstalling.

(From control panel > add & remove programs, get java from just about anywhere, sun works.)

Hit ctrl+shift+del and delete cache, cookies, and authenticated sessions. Close FireFox, and then try to access your router control page.

For some reason they work fine today. I'll try to keep this advice in mind if it happens again.

Thanks!

I would leave Zone Alarms off regardless. A visit to ShieldsUP! should set your mind at ease about th built in firewall.

Now, I USED to be a big Linksys fan, until I discovered that there seems to be a timer inside of them which will make them die a slow death, usually around the 1 year mark. Sometimes, as in your case, the symptoms are inexplicable. One thing that usually helps (although for me it was only a short term fix) was updating the firmware. Have you tried that?

No, I haven't. I'll look into it... although yeah, it seems like it's been about a year, year and a half since i bought this.

If you're convinced it has died, try erasing the firmware and starting again.

There should be a recessed reset button somewhere on it. Press that, start it up again, try to log in to it as normal and it should straight off ask you for an upload.

This is, of course, after you've downloaded the firmware fromhere.

Had the exact same problem. It's a browser issue, not a router issue. Your router is probably fine.

Do what Pock said. And stop looking at all that transsexual donkey porn, it screws your computer up. Don't ask me how I know.

Simple proof of what ReBoot says (and also worth a try regardless).

Get yourself another browser - there's loads of them, but I'd say Opera, if you've not got it on there already, and try getting at your router from that.

and DAMNIT I LIKE MY DONKEY PORN.

I just went and bought a D-link. wish me luck, guys. :|

EDIT: and i checked my networking cables too. before anyone suggests it.

EDIT x2: Wow, it did the MAC address clone this automatically. all systems go.
Thanks for trying to help me out anyways guys <3

Ugh I hate these problems that should NEVER EVER be happening for any good reason.

I had a fully functional DVD-RW drive on my Win2000 system. So I installed a second optical, a regular DVD drive. Now the OS cannot see the original DVD-RW, only the DVD. I swapped out the Master/Slave jumpers, so they both had a shot at being master. No dice.

The BIOS sees both of them regardless of the jumper settings, and both drive function no problem. Both drives are connected via the same ribbon cable in the second IDE slot. And both have power as well.

I have already tried to delete the Upper and Lower Filter entries in the Registry, to no avail.

I tried Add/Remove hardware and it did not detect the additional drive. Interesting to note that the OLD drive is the one that has disappeared.

I go into the Drive Management section and I can only see the new drive.

Also in Computer Management->Storage->Removable Storage->Physical Locations, it does show the entry for the missing drive, but claims that it is "Not Present" when I view the properties, and it has a red X through it.

Any ideas?

I haven't used Win2K much, but in Computer Management>Storage> there should be an entry for fixed disks, and somewhere in there (again, not familiar with Win2K) a place to specify the last available drive letter. I've had to set it to H: (or even Z: to be safe) to have systems recognize DVD drives, flash drives, Zip drives, etc

It's not my fault. Linksys sends out a wireless "KILL" signal every 90 days or so, and any router that is out of Warranty quickly complies. :p Seriously, try upgrading the firmware, even though you bought the new one. If it works, you have a spare. If its a WRT54G and any revision prior to 6, it's pretty easy to find third party firmware that makes the router BETTER than it was when you bought it. Google it and you should find PLENTY of links. Some sites will try to charge you money, but it's out there for free.
